About the event
What does it take to be crowned king?
In The Hot Wing King, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Katori Hall serves up a bold and flavorful story set in Memphis, where a group of Black men gather to prepare for the city’s annual “Hot Wang Festival.” At the center is Cordell Crutchfield, determined to perfect his recipe and claim the title - but as tensions rise in the kitchen, so do questions of identity, masculinity, love, and what it truly means to belong.
Blending humor, heart, and heat, this vibrant play celebrates Black joy, chosen family, and the bonds that hold us together when life turns up the pressure.
Directed by Donna Marie, this BNS Productions staging invites audiences into a world that is as tender as it is electric—where laughter fills the room, competition fuels the fire, and every character is fighting for something deeper than a trophy.
