BNS Productions presents:

AUGUST WILSON'S

JOE TURNER'S COME AND GONE

February 14th - 16th @The Parr Center

Joe Turner's Come and Gone is the second play in August Wilson's American Century Cycle, which explores the African American experience during each decade of the 20th century. Set in a Pittsburgh boarding house in 1911, this ensemble play includes characters who were former slaves and examines the residents’ experience with racism and discrimination in both the South and North.  These characters are in search of their identity.  Wilson calls it finding “one’s song.”

The boarding house serves as a gathering place, each character dealing with their own struggles of displacement and identity. Throughout the play, there is a focus on African heritage, self-discovery, and the importance of community and connection. August Wilson brilliantly fuses elements of African spirituality and symbolism with historical realities, offering a powerful reflection on the African American experience during this time of transition.
