Charlotte’s Only Black Repertory Theatre Company

BNS Productions is an award-winning Black repertory theatre company based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Founded in 2013 by Artistic Director, Producer and Playwright Rory D. Sheriff, BNS Productions creates theatre rooted in the African American experience through storytelling that educates, heals, challenges and inspires communities.

Through original productions, repertory theatre, education and community engagement, BNS Productions continues building space for Black artists, Black audiences and stories that deserve to be seen and remembered.

What started as a determination to create opportunities for Black storytelling has grown into one of Charlotte’s most recognized performing arts organizations.

BNS Productions exists to uplift Black voices through relevant and provocative theatre productions centered on community, culture, healing and representation. The company has earned regional and national recognition, including performances at the National Black Theatre Festival and winning A Taste of Theatre in Chicago.

ABOUT RORY D. SHERIFF

Rory D. Sheriff is an award-winning playwright, director, producer and the Founding Artistic Director of BNS Productions.

Driven by a passion for authentic representation and storytelling, Sheriff founded BNS Productions after recognizing the lack of consistent opportunities and visibility for Black theatre in Charlotte. His work focuses on creating stories that reflect the depth, complexity, humor, resilience and humanity of Black communities.

Under his leadership, BNS Productions has become a cultural institution dedicated to keeping Black stories center stage.
