Rory D. Sheriff and BNS Productions proudly return to the stage the award-winning original musical production, Be a Lion. This fan favorite plays for sold-out crowds almost every December in uptown Charlotte and now, for the first time, on the Booth Playhouse stage.

In 1979, the whole world danced and sang along as Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and a star-studded cast eased on down the road to see The Wiz - but no one ever questioned, "What happened next?" With the Wiz exposed as a fraud and no one to rule over Oz, the once dazzling Emerald City is now filled with chaos and crime. To make matters worse, Eveline, the Wicked Witch of the West had a secret love child, Damneesha, who is now hell-bent on avenging her mother’s death.

What will become of the four friends, Lion, Dorothy, Tin Man and Scarecrow? Who will step up to lead the people? Who better than the King of the Jungle?

Playwright Rory Sheriff describes Be a Lion as "if you took Hamilton and Motown, mixed them up together and dropped them in the middle of Oz." This highly entertaining, feel-good musical boasts a host of new, original songs, a colorful cast of your old favorites, along with a few new surprises. Be a Lion is great fun for the whole family, and quickly becoming a holiday tradition in Charlotte.

Be a Lion has won and been nominated for numerous awards, including winner of Broadway World’s Best Musical and a nomination for the Metrolina Theatre Association’s Best Musical Award. Most recently, Be a Lion took the prestigious Best Director Award at the Atlanta Black Theatre Festival. Come on and "Ease on down the road" with this classic in the making.
