About the event
This energetic lecture/demonstration links the historical and cultural significance of African, Afro-Caribbean and African-American dance forms through the ages and across continents including Funga, The Ring Shout, The Black Bottom, the Shimmy, Break Dancing and modern-day Afro-Pop. BNS Teaching Artists will lead participants on an exploration and demonstration of African-American vernacular dance styles from the mid
1600’s to modern day.
